FAQ

I just have an idea. Can I still enter the challenge?

Absolutely. We accept projects at all stages of maturity - from just an idea to a product or service already in the marketplace. However, in order to receive the full benefits of the Accelerate:LA program, projects should be capable of being implemented within 12 months of the completion of the challenge.

Is there an age requirement for challenge participants?

Yes, you must be at least 13 years old to participate in Challenge:LA. In the event that a child between the ages of 13 and 17 is selected as a winner, he or she must obtain written authorization from a guardian stating that he or she can present at the #techLA Conference in October.

Do you have to be a Los Angeles resident to participate?

No, you do not have to reside in Los Angeles in order to participate in the challenge. However, the primary contact person for each project does need to be a Citizen or Legal Resident of the United States throughout the duration of the challenge in order to be eligible to win.

What is the submission deadline?

Completed submission forms must be submitted by 11:59PM PST on Sunday, September 20, 2015 in order to be eligible for consideration. Please note that late entries will not be accepted.

Can I edit my project once it's submitted?

Any suggestions on how or where to form a team?

We suggest you take advantage of the various #techLA events that will be taking place all summer to meet folks who may be interested in joining your team. Definitely check out the monthly Civic Hack Nights run by Hack for LA. They take place on the last Tuesday of every month at Impact Hub LA in the Arts District downtown. There will also be several hackathons taking place in Los Angeles around water and community engagement, not to mention CicLAvia in August where the focus will be on transportation. In addition, use the hashtags #ChallengeLA along with #transportation, #community, or #water to find other people who are working on projects for Challenge:LA!
